What has changed in this update?
WorldTrips, the plan administrator has transitioned to a new insurance carrier/s for its Atlas Series travel medical line and related products. The effective transition date is 12:01 AM EDT on May 29, 2025.
Carrier Update and New Underwriting Structure
WorldTrips programs are underwritten through binding authorities with Houston Casualty Company (HC) and TMHCC (CI) Insurance Limited, both wholly owned subsidiaries of HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. (TMHCC). TMHCC’s ultimate parent is Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (TMNF), one of Japan’s largest insurance groups.
- Policies sold in Florida only: Underwritten by Houston Casualty Company (HC), which is a prominent specialty insurance carrier based in Houston, Texas. HC was originally founded in 1974 and has since grown into an international insurer with a strong reputation for financial stability and innovative specialty insurance products.
- Policies sold in all other locations worldwide: Underwritten by TMHCC (CI) Insurance SPC Ltd, part of Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCC) and is a leading international specialty insurance group headquartered in Houston, Texas. TMHCC companies operate globally with offices worldwide and underwrite more than 100 classes of specialty insurance in over 180 countries.
HC and TMNF possess consistently strong ratings with the leading global financial rating institutions:
AM Best: A++ (Superior)
S&P Global: A+ (Strong)
Fitch Ratings: AA- (Very Strong)
Product Coverage Benefits Updates
- Home Country Coverage / Incidental Home Country Coverage: This benefit will be removed from all products; the Benefit Periods (where applicable) will remain unchanged and will remain in place.
- List of restricted countries: The restricted countries will default back to the Noted Countries and Territories for Eligibility list.
- Never listed as Destination Country: Iran, North Korea, Syria
- Never listed as Destination Country (Exception for U.S. Citizens): Cuba
(U.S. Citizens must certify that they qualify for travel authorized under US Treasury’s regulations and that they comply with the terms of such authorization.) - Not available for selection at purchase as Destination Country: Belarus, Lebanon, Russia, Ukraine
- Never listed as Home Country: Cuba, Iran North Korea, Syria, Ukraine
- Never listed as Citizenship/Passport Country: Cuba, Ukraine
- U.S. Territories and Outlying Areas
- United States Citizen / Home Country cannot list as Destination Country: Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands
- United States Citizen / Home Country can list countries as Destination Country: American Samoa, Guam, North Marina Islands
- Location at Purchase
- The proposed applicant cannot be located in the locations at the time of purchase: Australia, Canada, New York, Washington
- The proposed applicant and the purchaser cannot be located at the time of purchase: Maryland
- EEA Location at Purchase
- The proposed applicant cannot be located in the following locations at the time of purchase: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic
- EU/EEA Location Attestation: Required only if coverage is less than 120 days and not required for coverage 120 days or longer. Also, the UK (Home Country or Citizenship) 120-day requirement will remain in place.
How the Old Carrier Sunset & New Carrier Transition Process Goes in Effect?
- Old Carrier Sunset: New sales of Lloyd’s product will end after the carrier transition, and all new policies issued going forward will fall under the new carrier.
- Existing Policy Renewal: Extensions and cancellations will continue as normal
- Existing Saved Quotes: Older saved quotes with Lloyd’s as underwriter will be deleted with this update
- Updated Documents: Description of Coverage Summary Docs, plan brochures, and rate sheets will all be updated.
